The purpose of these devices is to provide safe exit for the occupants of a buildingeat all times, day or night, and regardless of Whether the exit doors are locked against entrance from the outside. 1

This is accomplished by means of a cross bar, pivoted at either end, which. when pushed down or pulled up, releases the latch bolt. In most models. the door may be left freely operable from the outside, or locked against entrance except by key.

Von Duprin devices were the first to be invented and manufactured. and are the largest selling line of fire and panic exit devices in the world. They have been sold continuously since 1908 by the Vonnegut Hardware 00.. a hardware house founded in 1852.

In brief, Von Duprin devices provide the occupants of the building with safe, sure, instant exit at all times-and to the theatre executive they bring the solid satisfaction of knowing that both patrons and staff have been given the best possible protection in case of fire or panic.


THEATRE APPLICATION. Fire and panic exit devices should be used on every

exit, fire stair, and fire escape door of the theatre.

TYPES. Von Duprin devices are made in a wide variety of types for various purposes, most of them falling into two classes, those for single doors and those for double doors, the device for the standing door of the latter being equipped with vertical rods carrying latch releases at the top and bottom of the door.

QUALITY AND FINISH. Von Duprin devices are made in drop-forged brass or bronze, in cast brass or bronze, and in malleable iron. In most models the

important functioning members are of drop-forged brass or bearing metals. Any standard hardware finish is available.

DOOR DESIGN. Von Duprin devices are made for application to nearly every kind of wood and metal door, and no special door design is necessary except that doors must open outward.

APPLICATION AND MAINTENANCE. Von Duprin devices are easily and quickly applied by any

capable carpenter. Complete instructions and templates are supplied with each device. They require little or no maintenance except a few drops of oil when needed. On the rare occasions when parts may be necessary, these Can be secured from the builders, hardware dealer or direct from the home office.

ADVANTAGES. Most Von Duprin devices may be operated by either a push or a pull on the cross

bar, a very important factor in case of panic. Because of their simplicity of design and exceedingly strong parts, Von Duprin devices are easily operated, yet have the great strength necessary to withstand the severe demands of a panic or other emergency.
