The Paramount Theatre

Saint John, New Brunswick

As the largest theatre in this city where there has been no new theatre building for many years, great effort will be directed toward making the new Paramount an outstanding example of modern luxury. To be constructed on a lot 93 feet by 145 feet, with a contents of 450,000 cubic feet and costing $250,000, a stadium plan has permitted accent on a spacious lounge that will lend itself to rich decoration, without sacrificing seating capacity in the auditorium. The total seating capacity will be 1,452, with 852 seats spaced 31 inches back-to-back on the

main floor, and 600 seats spaced 32 inches back-toback on the stadium floor. Structural glass doors at the lobby entrance will introduce the interior richness to the passersby.

Foundation and floors will be reinforced concrete. Walls will be of brick with a back-up of tile. The roof will be of gypsum roof slab overlaid with felt and gravel, and supported by steel trusses. Heating will be by forced hot water; and air-conditioning by refrigeration. The acoustical treatment will combine Acousti-Celotex and rockwool.

ONE SMALL STORE HAS BEEN WORKED INTO THE FRONT WHICH WILL BE CONSTRUCTED OF BUFF AND BROWN BRICKS, WITH A PORTION COVERED WITH STRUCTURAL GLASS TO RESULT IN A PLEASING DESIGN.
