After Peace and Freedom, a New Cinema for the Philippines Capital

The Republic Theatre

The Republic Theatre, which opened early last year, was designed by Zacarias Santon, with capacity of 500 in the orchestra, 50 in the loges, and 200 in the balcony. Little detailed information is available on this new theatre

in Manila, Philippines, but here is a collection of pictures provided by Bela Bass of S. M. Berger and Company, Inc., showing (upper left) the front, (upper left) the lobby, (middle left) the mezzanine promenade, (bottom right) a

section of the loge and balcony seats, and (bottom right) an advertising display further enhanced by the usherette staff. A definite Latin-American inauence is to be noted in some of the architectural details of this post-war theatre.
