Notes on the Use of Unit Air Conditioners

Flexible in Application, Easy to Install

Multiple "Packages" Can Effect Economies.

Theatre air-conditioning has come a long way since the early days of giant carbon-dioxide central plants. This refrigerant was later discarded for Freon12, resulting in a more compact compressor. However, this method of distribution, which is maintained at high cost, limits air-conditioning to well patronized theatres with admission prices above the average.

Now a new method, the most modern, using multiple ttpackage typel, selfcontained units, has arrived, offering all the results obtained with central plants, plus additional advantages.

This new method reduces to total tonnage of refrigeration required, since the self-contained units are situated on the fioor of the theatre. The air is then

discharged horizontally at a low level, just high enough to clear the heads of the patrons; therefore, no refrigeration is wasted mixing with high-temperature air at or near the ceiling. Cold air, being heavier, will lay at the lowest strata, at the breathing level, avoiding mixture with higher-temperature air above. In this way, a saving of as much as 25 percent refrigeration can be realized. This 25 percent will be reflected in saving in machinery, water consumption, and motor horsepower.

Selfecontained unit are compact, of good appearance, and they can be located in full View if desired. Then, too,

air ducts are not necessary, as the units are provided with directional flow grilles on the front or back and additional grilles also placed on the sides. Self-contained units are very fiexible in application. They are easy to install and the only hookup required is electrical connections to the factory-engineered control panel within the unit. Then connect plumbing piping to the water supply and drain lines. Presto! Your air-conditioning is ready to operate and give perfect air-conditioning comfort. In addition, thermostatic zone control is obtained, assuring even temperature over the entire theatre. Those in the know are well acquainted with the difiiculties met to obtain this zone-control feature when employing the
