It is the unusual in Showmanship that San Franciscois theatresgoing public has come to expect at the Vogue Theatre, a 375-seat deluxe motion-picture house. Therefore, the Vogue was the natural choice of San Francisco Theatres, Inc., as the site for the novel experiment of screening both commercial and entertainment films in the same theatre.

reasoned that both 16-min. and 35-min. pictures could be made available on the same screen. The Vogue Theatre already possessed a reputation for experimental enterprises in the entertainment field. A series of "festival" programs of musical, historical, and literary subjects in motion pictures has been acclaimed by San Francisco audiences. When a prominent wine company requested the use of the Vogue for a showing of documentary

films to its sales executives during the daytime when the theatre was normally dark, it emphasized the possibilites in developing the facilities of the theatre for a two-fold purpose.

San Francisco theatres then moved to offer film display service not only to audio-visual minded business and industrial organizations but also to all fraternal, religious and foreign-speaking groups. who often show lG-mm. documentary films to their members. To provide for this service, the latest 16-min. equipment was secured and installed in the Vogueis projection booth.
