Dual equipment of the Amprosound 16-mm. high-intensity-arc-type projectors have been located beside the theatres regular 35-mm. machines. The Ampro 16-mm, projectorsefeaturing an automatic fire shutter and triple-claw movement, and employing a 2-inch coated Simpson Optical projection lens ware equipped with Strong Junior-Hi arc lamps of the high-intensity type. This guarantees the Vogue Theatre a projection of approximately 1,000 lumens of light with its 16-mm. equipment that is indistinguishable from its regular operation. The 85efoot throw to the screen from the booth oders no dithculty to the smaller machine.

After special wiring had been installed for the new projection equipment and the 16-min. machines permanently mounted, the sound was tapped into the Western Electric system already in use. George Austin, Vogue projectionist and 16-mm. specialist, prepared original techniques to provide smooth operating procedure for change-overs between the two types of machines. Through the use of a long lightweight metal bar attached to the 16-min. change-over device, Austin is able to control both types from one position in his booth.

With these projection facilities, the Vogue Theatre is now enabled to sustain the high standards of screen performance that prevail in normal theatre option. Film showings to business and social groups in hastily established halls and hotel rooms were usually marred by distractions and low quality screening. This poor presentation, it was revealed, tended to legislate against relaxation and receptivity by the audience. At the Vogue, however, Bay Area advertising and public-relations executives are offered a theatre atmosphere, theatre seating, full lighting, and an enclosed soundproof projection booth with all details of the showing handled by his own staff.


In addition to the purely technical advantages of projection, the Voguels appearance and location give it particular advantages. Only a ten-minute ride from any location in San Francisco, the theatre is situated in a lively shopping center accommodating both an exclusive residental area and a middle-classshome clientele. Four direct transit lines from the metropolitan area make the Vogueis neighborhood easily available by bus or street car. The theatre building itself presents a particularly eye-appealing construction unit. The house was recently renovated and redecorated. The facade, adhering to a simple functional design, displays an efficient example of nee-classic theatrical architecture. Dominant is a bold vertical sign displaying the theatres name in flashing neon, with an auxiliary marquee predominantly amber in background color located directly beneath it. Simple neon strips decorate the ample marquee, while illumination from frosted glass panels in the sofiit increase the light about the box office and outer lobby. Glistening white walls, trimmed with pale blue strips and royal blue tile, achieve a harmonious appearance at the theatres entrance,

THE AUDITQRIUM o! the Vogue Theatre will seat 375, including a loge-like section, with leathercovered chairs, at.the rear of the theatre. The main stage curtains are maroon, with the potted palms ottering a suggestion of formality beside the proscenium arch. Lighting is irom tour chandeliers which maintain a royal blue motif. Indirect cove lights, blue and green, are located on the side walls.

THE FQYER IS a compact section, in pastel tones ot sott yellow, powder pink, and gray. Blue carpets in a Simple starred desrgn, lobby settees, a small candy bar, an inset drinking tountain surrounded by golden mosaic. and a table tor tloral arrangements iurnish the inner lobby trom which two doorways lead directly to the auditorium aisleheads. The candy bar is back by the announcement board.
