The lake

Warsaw, Indiana

Efficiently modern with no waste of space is this new 908-seat theatre in 7,000-populationed Warsaw. The 6-day operating policy is split into two changes weekly with first-run pictures at an admission scale of 50 cents for adults.

The front is of light brick and granite. A rectangular marquee boasts of good show-selling areas and some 1,600 incandescent bulbs. Four feet high letters channeled with neon top the corner facade. And the entire effect is modern and forceful.

An inviting open lobby leads directly into a foyer promenade painted in shades of blue with indirect lighting of blue and orange fluorescents from dropped ceiling coves. A large mirror panel behind a flower box garden is centered in the standee wall between the aisle heads for no standee area is necessary. Opposite it is a liberal candy bar and entrances to the lounge and toilet rooms.

Above the wainscot, the auditorium walls are broken into maroon sections by a series of cove lighted panels; and each section is individually ornamented with large painted blue and yellow fiowers. The seats are upholstered in blue. The carpet is in maroon and blue in a large figured pattern. Columnar effects at the sides of the proscenium set off simple contrasting stage draperies.
