In Pawtucket (R.I.) THE CENTER, formerly the Capitol, was well located in a busy district and had 1385 seats; but it needed rejuvenation to maintain a good run and admission scale (55c). The problem also, was to combine the theatre candy stand with a refreshment store so they could function jointly or separately as conditions demanded and facilities permitted.

The marquee was extended to embrace both properties and give importance to each; the boxoffice was relocated and structural glass doors were added in order to open the lobby; a new ladiest lounge was installed; and the removal of ornamentation, new lighting, painting and new drapes in the auditorium, completed the transition. Costs: $34,000 for remodeling, and $15,000 for equipment.

RESULT: An especially great increase in confection sales both inside and outside of the theatre; an increased patronage; and the better type of pictures that had been the objective.
