In Madison (Conn.) THE MADISON was a rundown, barnlike structure of 600 seats, that was inadequate in both function and public safety. The problem was to improve such inadequacies and blend the design into the colonial nature of the town.

New masonry {ire walls were erected on either side of the foyer; the lobby was widened; a new plaster ceiling and a nreproof projection booth were installed. The front and adjacent stores were completely done over for increased rentals. Costs: $52,000 for remodeling, and $8,000 for equipment.

RESULT: First-run pictures at a higher admission price; and a hearty welcome by increased patronage.
