The new Normandie was conceived and created as one of the nations finest intimate theatres. The original building, which housed the Lotus Club, was completely demolished to make way for the theatre and an office building and stores flanking it.

The front is simply executed in polished granite, stainless steel, and glass. Two complete sets of glass doors lead into the inner lobby, which offers easy access to a stairway and the escalator to the main lounge.

The lounge is furnished with deeply upholstered seatings of green, eggshell, and rust. Off-white ceilings and walls papered with a gold recessive pattern lend a note of simple beauty.

The auditorium is planned in a series of offset panels between a stadium-type balcony and the screen platform, where the walls converge. Acoustical plaster covers the rear wall of the balcony, and a protective dado of clear lacquer covers the side walls. The Normandiels 598 coral-tinted chairs were installed with special attention to good sight lines.

A triple air-conditioning system provides even temperatures throughout the theatre. This is made possible by the division of the theatre into three airconditioning sections which are treated by individual units.

Automatically controlled lighting coves supply soft, diffused illumination in the gold-mottled ivory auditorium.
