ALOUETTE Montreal, Quebec, Canada

Situated in the heart of the main business section, this colorful 1300 seat stadium-type theatre opened to the public March 6, 1952.

Catering to the large French speaking population of Montreal, both the decorative treatment, and the films

shown are French in origin and navor.

In order to overcome the problem of a very narrow area for the front, a series of vividly colored terrazzo and macotta diagonal stripes were placed

over the marquee. To further overcome the space problem a towering sign was also installed.

The dominating feature of the lobby is the ultra-modern wall mural which curves up the Wall of the main stairway to the lounge. The color scheme is pink, beige and deep blue. The carpeting was especially designed and shows a lark perched on a branch against a black background, and framed with maple leaves.

The auditorium is built low and wide in order to get the best acoustical effect. The cost of construction was over $300,000.

LOCATED 0" WHAT was once a parking lot the designers ol the Alouelle made use at bright colors and bold decorative treatment to overcome space problems. Notice the outline ot a lark in neon tubing on the large Sign. and the same lurk theme on the carpeting. The unulual mural and door handles dominate the lobby.
