dismantling. The front element is moved to forward position. Exposed knurled edge is then turned counter clockwise and removed.

3-D Proieciion Aid

A new pocket instrument designed to take the guesswork out of the use of Polarized filters and 3-D movie glasses for the motion picture projectionists, has been announced by Polacoat, Inc.

Known as the Polacoat-Polarized Axis Finder, the ffheartil of the device is a lens using a new pattern of polarization consisting of a concentric circularly oriented polarizer. This lens develops visible wedge-shaped shadows when polarized light is seen. For instance, when viewing a polarizer in the projection booth, the operator can instantly determine whether the axis of the polarizer is proper for 3-D projection. Also, the efficiency of the polarizer can be determined by the relative density of the wedge-shadows appearing on the Polacoat Polarized Axis Finder lens.

The angle of the axis of polarization is read directly on a calibrated scale at the rim of the lens, which is housed in a metal ring which slides between the cover plates of a rigid anodized aluminum case. The case completely protects the lens when carried as handy pocket

Metallic Rectifier

A new metallic rectifier, for use with high intensity projection arc lamps, has been announced by The Strong Electric Corporation.

This Selenium rectifier was deveIOped to convert the three-phase alternating line supply current to direct current for use with high intensity projection arcs of from 70 to 135 amperes, it is said.

The rectifying units themselves consist of sheets of metal which are coated on the outside and are completely moisture-proof to insure reliable operation in damp climates.

Two sets of transformer taps are provided for adjusting the output current over a wide range of amperages and to compensate for variations in line voltage from 200 to 250 volts. Fine taps on the primary are connected to an eight-point external manually controlled switch which permits current adjustment while the arc is burning and without the necessity of reconnecting wires.

Ventilation is by forced draft provided by the single-phase ball-bearing fan which cools the plates to room temperature. The plates are sufficiently spaced SO that the draft passes between them

and in direct Contact with the rectifying surface.

The Strong selenium rectifier-s are completely dry and non-chemical and since rectification is by molecular action, and no actual physical change takes place accordingly, the useful life of the rectifier is practically indefinite. There are no electrolytes to add and no contacts to clean or adjust. Strong selenium rectifiers require no attention or maintenance as the entire equipment, with the exception of a heavy duty cooling fan, has no moving parts to wear out, make noise or disintegrate, it is claimed.

Unit construction permits the easy removal for inspection of any of the variv ous component parts. The transformer, switch and fan form the top assembly and the rectifier elements a separate unit in the base.

A remote control relay permits convenient starting directly from the projector and an air-dew switch assures protection against ventilation failures. Strong selenium rectifiers are built in single lamp units and in three sizes adjustable from 70 to 90 degrees, 90 to 110 amperes, and 110 to 135 amperes.

FOR DRIVE-IN THEATRES Preven'l' Cesspool Clogging

A new bacteria discovery, specifically designed to prevent cesspool clogging all year round in a single application, was

recently announced by the Fermex Company.

The new product, which is being marketed under the name of Formula FX-7, is said to be the result of selecting and adapting several bacteria strains that continuously produce proteolutuic enzymes by feeding on the organic matter within the cesspool. it is claimed that because of its active nature the bacteria culture reproduces itself, thus assuiu ing year-round prevention of cesspool clogging.

According to the manufacturer, Formula FX-7 is safe and easy to use, and is not harmful to the plumbing, the cesspool, or the bacteria therein. It is used by simply pouring the contents of a quart can into the toilet bowl and fiushing.

Magnetic Rood Sweeper

A new magnetic road sweeper, dew signed to remove tacks, nails and other" tramp iron from such places as drive-in theatre ramps and entrances, was recently developed by the Eriez Manufacturing

Company. Called the Super-Sweeper, it can be pushed, pulled, or suspended, and is made in three strengths and four widths: 24, 36, 48, and 60 inch sizes.

The handle is of tubular steel which is easily removed for storage and transportation. The Super-Sweeperls powerful Alnico V magnetic element will snap up and hold iron which comes in its path, it is claimed. A loop at the end of the steel handle can be attached to almost any trailer hitch. The wheels are fitted with puncture-proof 8.00 by 2 inch tires. Heavy-duty models operate efficiently at speeds up to 10 miles per hour.

ln-Car Speakers From First-American Products

The availability of a new line of incar speakers was recently announced by First-American Products, Inc.

At the present time two models are being offeredethe Chief with a three and one-half inch speaker, and the Super Chief with a four inch speaker. Both speakers have cast aluminum junction boxes which contain a wholly-enclosed line transformer with larger terminal strips to simplify "hook-up," it is claimed. They are available with or without down lights, and designed to mount on one and a half, and two inch pipe, or two inch tubing.

The magnet and pole tip in the speakers are permanently held in place by the tension of a spring metal cup, and every
